Aurora Provides Update for its Novel Insight™ Product

North Vancouver, Canada, August 5, 2020 – Aurora Solar Technologies Inc. (TSX.V: ACU) (the “Company”) provides a further update on the development of its InsightTM data science product for solar cell production yield optimization. Insight is an innovative platform to maximize solar cell manufacturing yield and extend Aurora’s business scope to include software solutions capable of generating a recurring revenue stream.

In January of this year, the Company reported on the completion of several key milestones in the development of Insight and indicated that the product would be targeted for general release to the market in the second half of 2020.

Since that time, product development has continued according to plan, however with the global COVID-19 pandemic forcing an extended cessation of international business travel, full market introduction has been necessarily delayed. The Company now plans for release of the first version of the product for evaluation by selected lead customers in the final calendar quarter of 2020.

Since the milestones reported in January, the company has completed these additional steps to product completion and release:

  • Practical verification of Insight’s proprietary data mining algorithms using actual production line data from one of our trial sites
  • Development of an improved User Interface that is focused on the key use cases of production line yield optimization and fault identification.
  • To initiate market visibility, publication of a joint paper with a lead customer and industry technology partners, outlining how the use of Insight’s algorithms can aid continuous improvement and yield optimization in high-volume solar cell fabrication. (“Statistical Insights from Inline Solar Cell Metrology Data in a PERC Production Environment”, Photovoltaics International Vol. 44, May 2020)

The Company expects to be in a position to announce further developments and milestones late in the current quarter and into the fourth quarter of the current calendar year.

Insight – Aurora’s data science product for top-quality solar cell production

Aurora’s InsightTM is a novel product using proprietary algorithms to evaluate the large volumes of data collected during solar cell fabrication. The product evaluates these data to inform the manufacturer – in real time – how well its production equipment is performing, where problems may be occurring, or where yield might be improved.

The Company’s long-term vision for Insight is to create a new industry standard for quality control and measurement in the solar cell manufacturing market. Insight is targeted for general release to the market in the second half of 2020 with initial introduction to key strategic customers and will be packaged as a server-based product, co-located in the customers’ production facilities. It will be marketed to customers by Aurora on an annual subscription basis.
